You probably don’t need us to tell you that Paul O’Grady is a massive fan of animals – and especially dogs.
The veteran broadcaster, 62, has spent the past few years of his career making programmes about our four-legged friends, and has even won awards for his charitable efforts.
But inevitably, working in such close proximity to afflicted animals is going to open your eyes to some pretty upsetting sights.
And Paul has lifted the lid on the terrible conditions faced by pups he encountered while filming the ITV series For The Love Of Dogs: India.
The Blind Date host told Best magazine: “The street dogs are actually quite well cared-for by the people living there, who will go out at night to give them food.
“But a facility meant to house 150 homeless dogs now has 700.
“It’s awful. It makes Battersea Dogs & Cats Home look like the Savoy Hotel. They get no money or funding, there’s no equipment and the surgery is very basic.”
All in all, it’s been a pretty tough year for the man formerly known as Lily Savage.

Back in November, we reported that the Cheshire-born star had been rushed to hospital while filming For The Love Of Dogs: India.
He told The Mirror at the time: “[The dogs] had been bitten by rats, and there were maggots in them.
“I must’ve touched my mouth with my hand, and I started vomiting at five in the morning.”
Thankfully, doctors were able to save his life. However, the entertainer revealed later that month that he’d suffered another setback – his beloved dog Louis had died.

During an interview with the Express, he was asked when he’d last cried, and he replied: “When my dog, Louis, was put to sleep recently after he had a stroke. I’d had him for 14 years.”
Let’s hope 2018 is a better year for him!
