In a shocking new interview, Paul Young has revealed a dramatic hospital dash, after he was struck down by pneumonia.
The singer – who lost his wife last year to cancer – admitted his recovery has been “tough”, after the illness left him unable to even walk up stairs.
Paul, 63, told The Mirror: “I have just got over pneumonia. It has been tough, took it out of me. I had to admit myself to hospital in the end. It started off as a cold and then it just got worse.”
The Don’t Dream It’s Over singer – who is on a UK tour – went on: “I am still recovering from it and I am still finding it hard doing stuff like walking up stairs.”

Despite the devastating bout of pneumonia, Paul has still been performing gigs.
He told fans on Twitter last month: “First gig since the pneumonia last night; perhaps a little early but it was in the calendar!

“Didn’t have to drop any songs but felt like I’d been punched in the kidneys this morn: onwards!”

It’s been an awful 12 months for the eighties singer, who opened up last year about losing his beloved wife to cancer.

Stacey passed away in January 2018 at the age of 52 following a two-year battle with brain cancer.
In an interview with presenters Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes on This Morning, Paul said he and Stacey, who have three children, “made the best of it” for the two years she was ill.

He said: “Yes [it is a tough year] but really the tougher years were the two years from the diagnosis right through, you know.”
Holding back tears, he continued: “We just made the best of it for those two years. And as a family, we agreed that we wanted to get working and do something positive. That’s what [Stacey] was proudest of.

“She was really happy for me when things started to pick up again. We see each other all the time.”
