Peter Andre shares heartbreaking health update: ‘Things aren’t always great’

He had his first breakdown in the 1990s

Peter Andre is grateful to 2024 for a lot of things, despite facing some difficulties that took a toll on his mental health.

The Mysterious Girl singer welcomed his third child with wife Emily in April. Named Arabella, the baby girl is undeniably the highlight of her father’s year.

However, the musician is gravely worried about his mother, Thea, in Australia. Peter had revealed ahead of Christmas that she wasn’t “doing great”.

Peter Andre shares upsetting health update

In an exclusive interview with The Mirror, Peter has expressed his concerns about his mother. He’s planning to fly Down Under to spend time with her soon.

Reflecting on his mental health, largely influenced by mum’s battle with Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease, the singer said: “Although I’ve had a lot of highs in 2024, I did experience feelings of anxiety that I haven’t had for a long time, especially to do with my mum’s health.

Truthfully, I have found parts of this year quite hard.

“I think that’s why I spoke a lot more about mental health because I wanted to be open and admit that things aren’t always great. I like to think of myself as a positive person but, truthfully, I have found parts of this year quite hard.”

Despite his parents’ deteriorating condition, Peter is glad to have them with him. He shared in a previous interview that he and his brother Michael will be visiting their parents “to spend some real quality time” with their mum, dad and sister.

“I need to spend time with my mum, which is going to be emotional. When it comes to her health, we just have to hope and pray that she’s doing okay. It will mean so much to have this time with her, ” he said.

He’s vocal about mental health issues

The Australian singer is a strong advocate of mental health, having publicly shared his own struggles.

His battle with mental health dates back to when he first shot to fame. Urging others to stop treating issues related to the mind as taboo, the singer said: “I remember having my first breakdown in the 1990s and the years that followed were horrific.

“I felt like I couldn’t talk to anyone because it was taboo. Back then, you’d go to a doctor and sometimes they wouldn’t know what to do. I never want my kids to experience that.”

More recently, in August 2024, he shared an Instagram post detailing his journey with mental health, particularly panic attacks.

Sharing his personal experience, Peter said: “You literally think you’re going to die. A panic attack, the way I describe it was thinking I’m going to die,” Peter narrated directly to his followers.

“Your heart’s beating fast, your palms get kind of sweaty, and you experience this brain fog. You don’t know what’s going to happen and I can’t get out of this,” he continued.

Encouraging his followers to talk about mental health struggles, the singer said “It’s a very normal way to feel.” He added: “What I will tell you is you’re not crazy. And nothing is actually going to happen to you. That’s the hardest thing to believe at this point.”

Peter’s baby is the highlight of 2024

Although Peter’s mum is always on his mind, he says the year so far has been “incredible and definitely one to remember”.

“Emily and I welcomed our baby Belle – who is now eight months old – into the family, and that has been the ultimate highlight for me. When I look at all my kids, I just think about how lucky I am,” said the singer.

Peter has five children. He shares his eldest son, Junior, and first daughter Princess with his ex-wife Katie Price.

He also shares two more children with Emily in addition to Arabella. Amelia was born in 2014, and they welcomed their son Theo in 2016.
