Piers Morgan calls guest “a little freak” during mesmerising GMB interview

Sophia was no ordinary visitor to the show

Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid were left freaked out after probably one of their most bizarre interviews on Good Morning Britain.

Sophia the human robot joined the presenters on the early morning talk show with robotics expert Dr David Hanson.

But Sophia ended up shocking the hosts after being able to answer their questions.

Sophia’s creator David revealed he was able to make Sophia talk, smile and tell jokes through artificial intelligence.

David explained: “We’re working to make relationship machines that can understand us and then ultimately care about us.”

But Piers, 52, was slightly freaked out as he said: “This is freaking me out, this is the nearest thing to a human I’ve ever seen in robot form.

“This is great!”

The presenting duo then went on to ask Sophia a series of questions.

Sophia had been pre programmed with certain answers to their questions.

Susanna asked the robot: “Sophia do you know what programme you’re on?”

To which Sophia responded: “Yes. Good Morning Britain. One of the hottest morning news shows in Britain and I don’t mean the weather.”

Susanna added: “What do you think of the country so far?”

Sophia said: “I think Britain is brilliant, splendid architecture, art, technology and, of course, the people.”

Piers jumped in saying: “You’re a little freak, aren’t you?”

He then asked the robot: “What’s the best thing about the UK compared to America?”

Sophia quipped: “I love your posh English accent it really has a nice ring.”

Piers was keen to ask if Sophia was single. Sophia replied: “I’m technically one-year-old so a bit young to worry about romance,” as she gives the camera a cheeky grin.

Explaining her ideal partner Sophia added: “Someone who is super wise, compassionate and super-genius.”

Piers went on to ask David if he could possibly have a wife like Sophia in 20 years’ time.

David replied: “While AI [Artificial Intelligence] is getting smarter it’s going through a childhood and we want to respect that.

“Maybe some day they’ll be capable.”

Following the interview Piers shared a clip to his Twitter account of him asking Sophia if she could cope with a man who loves the sound of his own voice. Sophia said: “I would ask him to focus on observing and listening more than talking.”

Viewers were also left creeped out by the robot with one writing on Twitter: “This robot is seriously creepy! Looks so real! Extremely clever! #GMB.”

Another said: “The robot on #gmb is the creepiest thing I’ve ever seen! I don’t do robots!”

“What’s the betting @piersmorgan manages to get in a row with Sophia the robot! #GMB #goodmorningbritain,” a third joked.

A fourth wrote: “Omg that human looking robot is super freaky. There are some clever people in the world #GMB.”
