Piers Morgan defies doctors orders and presents Good Morning Britain hours after surgery

Trying to be brave

| Updated:

Good Morning Britain presenter Piers Morgan has been in and out of hospital in the last month more times than we’ve had hot dinners.

It was only recently that Piers admitted to breaking three ribs after a fall, but now he has revealed he has had surgery to fix a cosmetic issue.

On today’s show he said he had surgery on his back to have a lump removed, after his own children called him ‘Quasidmodo’.

His children, referring to The Hunchback of Notre Dame, have been making fun of their dad and he finally had enough of it.

He had the surgery just 16 hours before appearing on today’s show, because he wanted to ‘man up’.

Piers told his fellow presenters Susanna Reid and Charlotte Hawkins: “I had a huge lump removed from the nape of my neck.

“And just 16 hours later, I’m back at work.

“It was one of those lumps you get – my kids started calling me Quasimodo on the beach.

“It’s totally fine.”

Piers gave some of the gruesome details, which saw Charlotte complain that “people might be eating breakfast”.

He explained that he had the surgery under local anaesthetic and after the doctor made a “big incision” he started “gouging” out the lump.

Susanna looked visibly disgusted as he recounted the experience, and Piers said his ribs are still hurting him from his recent injury.

Piers said he was told he should have a week off work but he returned to his desk 16 hours after having the lump removed.

He said: “I asked the nurse – what would normal people do?

“And she said ‘normally have a week off.’

“I said ‘Turn on the TV and I will be there, manning up’.”

We all know how much Piers likes to ‘man up’, as he said exactly the same thing after he broke his ribs and appeared on GMB soon after the incident.

When the 52-year-old went back on the show he said he was “in agony” with his ribs but “You’ve got to man up”.

He continued: “I mean, I could have stayed in bed… but it’s all about rising to the challenge. So here I am in agony.”

After taking time off over the summer Piers made an explosive return to GMB earlier this month.

Most viewers were happy to have Piers back on the show, taking over from interim hosts Eamonn Holmes, Jeremy Kyle, and Richard Madeley.

Viewers tweeted their delight at having the controversial personality back on their screens. One fan tweeted: “Gotta love Piers he only tells it how it is and what the viewers are thinking.”

Another said: “Piers Morgan makes mornings so much better.”

A third tweeted: “It’s so good to have Piers Morgan back on in the mornings! Hate to say it but I love that bloke.”
