Piers Morgan hits back at Sky reporter who branded news coverage of Bruce Forsyth’s death “inconsequential”

Oh dear, not the right time or place to say that

There’s a time and a place to say certain things and blundering newscaster Adam Boulton really put his foot in it this week.

Last week the nation was heartbroken to hear that TV legend Bruce Forsyth had died.

The sad news made headlines and was even mentioned on bulletins on the BBC.

While many viewers were happy to see tributes to the entertainer on their news shows, Sky News’s Adam Boulton thought it was inappropriate.

In fact, just hours after the announcement of Bruce’s passing, he went as far as to Tweet that the TV host’s death was “inconsequential” and “not lead news”.

Viewers were furious with the insensitive comment and took Adam to task over it – and it wasn’t long before Bruce’s own flesh and blood got stuck in.

Sir Bruce’s daughter Debbie Matthews appeared to support several tweets from angry fans of Sir Bruce by “liking” their replies to Boulton.

One post read: “If your father happened to be Bruce Forsyth would you be tweeting that?

“No. show some respect to the guy’s family. I guess empathy is a gift.”

Debbie, 62, also liked Tweets that branded Adam’s comment “unnecessary”, and another that said it was “insensitive to say the least”.

Then Piers Morgan got involved and told Adam: “Brucie entertained this country for 70 years.”

Adam, clearly not understanding that the British public have a big place in their hearts for Bruce, hit back with a comment about Trump.

To which Piers then replied: “Bruce wasn’t just showbiz.

“He represented everything that is great about Britain – talent, charm, humour, work ethic & love for his family.”

Meanwhile over on BBC1, Bruce’s family sent a message to fans via The One Show thanking them for their kind tributes.
They said: “Our hearts are truly broken and the tributes paid to him in the last few days have helped us tremendously through this very difficult time.

“It’s been humbling and comforting to us to realise just how much Bruce was loved and how many lives he touched.”

Strictly host, Tess Daly, also shared her last picture with Bruce with a touching message.

Tess wrote: “Forever in my heart. This is one of my favourite photos with Bruce. It was the last time we worked together in the studio in November 2015, for the Children in Need Strictly Special. It’s hard to believe he is gone.

“He will be so greatly missed by us all. I grew up watching him on TV then spent 10 years pinching myself that I was standing by his side in the studio on Strictly Come Dancing.

“Thank you Brucie for the good times. I will never forget. Xxxxxxxx.”
