Piers Morgan announces he’s running for Prime Minister

The TV star wants to follow in the footsteps of his pal Donald Trump

If you’ve been following the news today, you’ll know our Prime Minister, Theresa May, is on the verge of being ousted from Number 10, as her MPs revolt over Brexit.

But never fear, Britain, because one man is ready to step up: Piers Morgan.

The controversial TV presenter took to Twitter to throw his hat in the race, tweeting: “What Britain needs is a strong PM. I’m available 💪”

He also pointed out he has the initials for it, adding the hashtag: “#PMforPM.”

Proving how serious he was, Piers, 53, later tweeted his old friend, the US President to get his support, writing: “It would restore the Special Relationship. Right, @realDonaldTrump?”

His 6.45million Twitter followers were divided by the idea, as the tweet racked up nearly 700 comments in a matter of hours.

Some encouraged the dad-of-four – who is married to author Celia Walden – to go for it.

One wrote: “Got my vote Piers #PMforPM 💪🏽” while another said: “Now that would be an experience.”

A third tweeted: “You couldn’t be any worse than @theresa_may.”

Others were horrified, as one tweeted simply: “Ew no!” and another commented: “We are desperate but not that desperate.”

A third added: “Not sure you are made of the right stuff Piers.”

Meanwhile, one fan suggested his Good Morning Britain co-host might be a better option, writing: “I’d prefer @susannareid100, far better than you 😁”

The former journalist is certainly well informed on the current crisis, even appearing on US news shows to explain what’s been going on.

On Thursday, he revealed he’d been on MSNBC, captioning the screengrab: “Talking British politics in New York this morning with @joescarborough … this Brexit crisis has the whole world gripped.”

We’re not sure about this idea, Piers. But at least it’s a fun distraction from all the depressing news, right?
