Piers Morgan has slammed the National Television Awards for nominating Ant McPartlin alongside Declan Donnelly for the Best TV Presenter and The Bruce Forsythe Award despite barely appearing on TV screens last year after taking time out to focus on his health.
Venting his frustrations on Good Morning Britain, Piers said: “By the way, you know how I was joking about Ant and Dec getting nominated for the NTAs because they win it every year, when one of them hadn’t done any work this year. It’s happened!

“They’ll win, even though Ant’s basically been sitting on his backside from what I can see, walking his dog for the last year. He’s got an award!”
Although co-host Susanna Reid couldn’t help but interrupt to correct Piers saying: “You can’t sit on your backside and walk your dog.”

Ant, 43, has been nominated alongside Dec for his work on Britain’s Got Talent despite only appearing on the show during the auditions as he was arrested for drink driving before the live shows started and subsequently took a break from television to attend rehab.
Ant was then replaced by Holly Willoughby for this year’s I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here, although he returned to work last month.
Later in the show the 53-year-old presenter, still annoyed that the Geordie duo could win the Best TV Presenter award for the 18th year in a row, added, “I love Ant, but come on, really? Really British public? You’re going to give the award again to the guy who hasn’t done any work this year?”

Ant and Dec face competition this year from Bradley Walsh, Graham Norton and their friends Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield in the Best Presenter category.
However, their reunion on the awards ceremony on January 22 has been plunged in to doubt as Simon Cowell has double booked them to work on Britain’s Got Talent on the same night.
However, Piers did have something to celebrate as he was finally shortlisted for the Best Daytime Show award alongside his co-presenter Susanna Reid. He also enjoyed noting the absence of their rival BBC Breakfast in the nominations.
Piers also insisted that viewers should vote for them rather than This Morning. He said: “If you don’t want to listen to Holly’s ‘How humbling this is speech,’ vote for us!”
He also promised viewers that if Good Morning Britain won Susannah would “get hammered” then present the show the following day.
