Piers Morgan slams Meghan and Harry for giving son Archie “silly” name

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have named their son Archie Harrison

Piers Morgan has criticised the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s name choice for their son.

Meghan and Harry, who welcomed their first child on Monday, announced yesterday that they have named their baby boy Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor.

Taking to Twitter to share his thoughts on the name, Piers accused the royal couple of picking “the most popular white middle-class first name”.

Alongside a photo of Meghan and Harry showing off their son, the Good Morning Britain presenter wrote: “So the royal couple, in a striking blow for diversity & feminism, have given their son one of the most popular white middle-class first names, Archie, and a second name, Harrison, that was chosen because it stands for ‘Harry’s son’ (I’m serious..). Hilarious.”

In a separate tweet, he added: “I like ‘Archie’, but calling him Harrison ‘because he’s Harry’s son’ is just silly.”

On Wednesday, Meghan and Harry proudly showed off their son to the world for the first time in front of cameras inside St George’s Hall at Windsor Castle.

The tiny newborn was wrapped up in a white blanket and matching hat as proud dad Harry, who wore a grey suit, cradled the tot in his arms.

Speaking about parenthood, new mum Meghan – who looked radiant in a white blazer dress – said: “It’s magical, pretty amazing. I mean I have the best two guys in the world. I’m really happy.”

Speaking about her baby son, Meghan added: “He has the sweetest temperament and he’s really calm and been the dream. It’s been a special few days.”

Harry continued: “It’s great. Parenting is amazing. It’s only been two days, three days, but we’re just so thrilled to have our very own bundle of joy.”

Hours later, the couple announced their baby boy’s name alongside a photo of the royal tot meeting his great grandmother the Queen and Prince Philip.

Meghan’s mum Doria Ragland, who was by her daughter’s side at the birth, was also in the photo.

The post was captioned: “The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are pleased to announce they have named their first born child: Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor.

“This afternoon Their Royal Highnesses introduced Her Majesty The Queen to her eighth great-grandchild at Windsor Castle. The Duke of Edinburgh and The Duchess’ mother were also present for this special occasion.”

According to the site BabyCentre, the name Archie has English origins and means “genuine” and “bald”, meaning “bold” or “brave”.

Archie is traditionally a shorter version of the name Archibald.

Harrison, meanwhile, is a sweet tribute to the baby’s father. It means “son of Harry”.

Archie is the latest addition to the royal family and is seventh in line to the throne.
