Piers Morgan has caused controversy yet again by suggesting that some stars who claim to have been sexually assaulted are not always telling the truth and suggested that sexual assault had “become the latest celebrity accessory”
The Good Morning Britain host admitted that he was “sceptical” that people like Lady Gaga and Madonna, who just opened up about being raped in the past during a speech at the Billboard awards, were ever actually victims of sexual assault.
“Lady Gaga & Madonna have both made ALLEGATIONS of rape many years after the event. No police complaint, no charges, no court case,” he Tweeted this week.
“I don’t think all claims of rape should be necessarily accepted as fact without proper criminal investigation, do you?
“I wouldn’t automatically believe anything either Madonna or Lady Gaga claimed about their lives.”
Bizarrely, a very brave Lady Gaga responded to the outrageous comments and tweeted Piers to say that she would be happy to do an interview with him to illuminate him as to why so few men and women actually report sexual assaults.
She posted: “@piersmorgan I’ve work w/ our VP Joe Biden on helping educate people about why women don’t report, would love to share it w/ you some time.”
Clearly, spotting a great opportunity, Piers replied: “OK, you’re on. Let’s do an interview about this & you can tell me why I’m wrong to be sceptical”
Unphased, the flamboyant singer responded: “@piersmorgan would also love to talk with you about PTSD, that it’s not just a “military” disorder. There is a mental health youth epidemic.’
However, Piers took offence to the reference of PTSD and hit back: “I know numerous soldiers with PTSD, it’s a very serious thing. I also know people who claim to have it but clearly don’t. Let’s talk…”
But Gaga was adamant that the condition existed within those who had been assaulted: ‘@piersmorgan if anyone in your family suffers from it, I pray they have more good days than bad. It has affected me & my whole family.❤.’
Accepting the interview, he told her he’d get his people to talk to her people, he commented, “I rather admire @ladygaga for agreeing to an interview after my criticisms. Should be a fascinating debate. I’ll press my meat suit.”
However, Gaga didn’t see the funny side of the joke, retorting: ‘@piersmorgan if you continue to shame me in the process of kindly agreeing to interview w/ u I’ll happily do the interview with someone else.”
Keen not to lose the exclusive, Piers hastily replied, ‘If you’re big enough to do this, I’m big enough to play fair too.’
Now there’s a one-on-one exclusive we are most definitely keen to see!
