The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have confirmed that they will not announce the birth of their first child straight away, as they would like time to “celebrate privately”.
Harry, 34, and Meghan, 37, made the announcement today.
The joint statement read: “The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are very grateful for the goodwill they have received from people throughout the United Kingdom and around the world as they prepare to welcome their baby.
“Their Royal Highnesses have taken a personal decision to keep the plans around the arrival of their baby private.
“The Duke and Duchess look forward to sharing the exciting news with everyone once they have had an opportunity to celebrate privately as a new family.”
Their plan breaks away from royal tradition.
Members of the royal family, including Duchess of Cambridge Kate, have appeared on the steps of the Lindo Wing, hours after giving birth, to present their new baby to the world.
It is believed that Harry and Meghan’s first child is due later this month.
Their statement comes after rumours of Meghan’s birthing plan circulated.
It’s believed Meghan will give birth in Windsor, where the couple have now relocated, rather than the traditional Lindo Wing at St Mary’s hospital in Paddington.

The couple recently moved into royal residence Frogmore Cottage after previously living at Kensington Palace in London.
A source told The Sun: “This child will not be born at the Lindo.
“The talk of all the senior clinicians there is that Meghan doesn’t want to copy what Kate did.”
They added: “Harry and Meghan realise there is intense public interest but this baby is not a direct heir to the throne and they want the birth to be as private as possible.”

Other reports claim former Suits actress Meghan has hired a female doctor to oversee the birth and she may have the royal baby at Frimley hospital in Windsor.
