The Royal family has been accused of ‘throwing Meghan Markle under the bus’, according to a Royal expert.

Appearing on Yahoo’s Royal Box podcast, Victoria Arbiter spoke on behalf of the American public when she said the famous family hadn’t done enough to protect their newest member.

According to Victoria – who is the daughter of Dickie Arbiter, press spokesman for Queen Elizabeth II until 2000 –  the American public believe Meghan is “under attack” and should be “defended” by her new family.

Insisting that the US, on the whole, adore the royals, she added that they are currently seen to be “not doing enough” to protect Meghan from criticism.

She said: “Overall, Americans – I’m generalising a little bit – love the royal family. They’ve always admired the Queen.”

She continued: “The love affair truly started with Diana.

“With Meghan now in there, they’re very proud. It’s one of their own behind palace walls.

“There is a sense, however, that they feel the royal family hasn’t done enough to protect Meghan.”

She went on to say: “And that is a theme that is developing. They find it hard to understand the royal family’s philosophy of ‘we don’t say anything because all that does is perpetuate the story’.”

Victoria, a royal commentator for news channel CNN, added: “There’s a sense in the States that she’s been under attack and that someone should have stood up and defended her.”

However, she conceded that the stories would be fuelled even more if, for example, Prince Charles stepped up to defend her.

Her comments come amid a flurry of negative attention focused on the Duchess of Sussex, whose son Archie is eight weeks old.

Meghan upset some fans recently when she attended Wimbledon, and members of the public were asked not to take photographs of her – sometimes even when they weren’t!

Meghan and Harry have also been criticised for not revealing the name of Archie’s godparents, as well as having a private Christening.

Since their marriage, Meghan and her husband have broken numerous royal traditions which some fans have applauded, while others have accused them of not respecting British customs.
