Rude comment by Saturday Kitchen prank caller leaves viewers in tears of laughter

Live call in segment was hijacked, leaving studio panel gobsmacked

A prank caller stunned the Saturday Kitchen studio into silence with a rude remark live on air earlier today.

The female mischief-maker, identified as ‘Rachel from Sunbury-on-Thames’, left host Matt Tebbutt momentarily flabbergasted after asking him a culinary question interpreted by many viewers as a filthy double entendre.

But as Matt, 44, quickly regained his composure, many observers immediately took to social media to confirm the understated hoax with other fans watching at home.

“Rachel, what’s your question?” Matt had asked as the Q&A segment that features viewers quizzing the BBC show’s guests on a range of food topics drew to a close.

“Oh, um, hi Matt,” an apprehensive voice replied over the phone line before asking about the preparation of horse chestnuts.

Rachel continued: “Every time I bite into one, I get a prick in my mouth. Any tips please?”

Despite the shocked silence from the panel’s other embarrassed-looking guests, Matt soon recovered from the cheeky enquiry and moved the show on.

“I think you need to maybe cook them,” he suggested, giving little hint of being rattled by the joker’s remark.

He then swiftly ended the segment, thanking those in the TV audience for getting in contact by phone and social media.

In fact, Matt was so speedy in putting an immediate end to Rachel’s banter, he didn’t even correct her to say conkers – as opposed to sweet chestnuts – rarely appear in recipes.

Viewers were in stitches at the prank, peppering tweets with crying laughing emojis and thanking Rachel for ‘making their morning’.

Did anyone just hear the caller on Saturday Kitchen?!” tweeted one TV watcher.

“The panel was left speechless!” laughed another.

And another fan chucked: “Haha, you’ve been properly had there!!”

Not everyone was completely sure Rachel was on a wind up, however.

One unsure viewer asked: “Did we just witness a rather rude caller to the Saturday Kitchen Live or did we mishear it? Matt gave her short shrift anyway!”

And another fan, who later admitted they may have missed the subtle gag, blasted Matt for being abrupt with Rachel.

“Probably the worst bit of advice given on Saturday Kitchen to a caller,” they tweeted.

“Presenter came across as a bit rude.”
