Eye-watering amount The Feud star Rupert Penry-Jones was left by his famous mum following her death

Actress Angela Thorne died back in 2023

Actress Angela Thorne, mum to The Feud star Rupert Penry-Jones, died in June last year at the age of 84.

Rupert put out a statement at the time saying she had died peacefully, and that her two sons – Rupert and his brother Laurie – and her grandchildren Florence, Peter, Giorgio and Delilah would all miss her “very much”.

Known for roles in Spooks, Silk, Whitechapel and The Strain, Rupert plays John Bartlett in new Channel 5 series The Feud.

The six-parter started on April 14, and follows a neighbourhood as it falls into disarray over one family’s plan to build an extension on their property.

How much did Angela Thorne leave to her sons Rupert and Laurie Penry-Jones when she died?

At time of death, Angela Thorne’s total estate was valued at £1,583,078, according to probate documents reported on by The Sun.

Born in 1939, Angela was 84 when she died. Her first film role was in Oh! What A Lovely War (1969), but much of her acting career was spent on the stage.

For example, she starred opposite Sir Bruce Forsyth in The Canterville Ghost, and in later life played Mrs Louisa Wilberforce in The Ladykillers, in 2013.

The sum of almost £1.6m Angela left her two sons includes the value of a coastal home in Anglesey, Northwest Wales, of which Rupert was the sole inheritor.

His brother Laurie, meanwhile, got her flat in Lavender Hill, in southwest London.

The two brothers split the remainder of their mum’s estate, since their dad, the actor Peter David Penry-Jones, died back in 2009.

Everything you need to know about Channel 5’s The Feud

Channel 5’s latest thriller is “a story of obsession, paranoia, and fear” starring some of the UK’s best contemporary acting talent.

The series’ cast includes Jill Halfpenny, Rupert Penry-Jones, Amy Nuttall, Ray Fearon, Tessa Peake-Jones and Larry Lamb, among others.

There are six episodes in total, each roughly an hour in length. It was shot in Newcastle. The cast and crew were blessed with “freakishly good weather”, Jill Halfpenny said.

“Sometimes our summers up here aren’t good, but we had the most amazing weather. Every day we woke up and it was bikini weather.”

Catch The Feud on Channel 5 tonight (April 21) at 9pm.
