Fears for Strictly legend Russell Grant as he’s rushed to hospital: ‘No cure’

'I woke with strange cottony things floating in my left eye'

Strictly star Russell Grant shared a scary health update while revealing there’s “no cure” for his condition.

The 72-year-old astrologer underwent a five-hour surgery in 2022 to have a benign tumour removed from his brain.

Months after revealing that his Type 2 diabetes had returned, Russell was rushed to the hospital over a medical emergency.

Russell Grant shares scary health update

On Thursday (January 30), the Strictly star told his fans about being rushed to the hospital on Monday.

Recounting the scary experience, the astrologer wrote: “Monday: I woke with strange cottony things floating in my left eye. Headed to the opticians for tests. Next day @BlackpoolHosp called: day after into the eye clinic. Result: I had a bleed behind my eye but no retinal damage but it seems I have to befriend the floater! No cure.” [sic]

He also thanked the “incredible healthcare team” for taking great care of him during the emergency appointment.

Russel added: “A huge thank you to Tina @eyesatwooding who found me an emergency appointment with Fatima @Specsavers and the incredible healthcare team @BlackpoolHosp @BlackpoolHospED ophthalmology dept and Mr Malik.

“It was a New Moon so I knew all would be well. Thank you, everyone.” [sic]

While talking to The Mirror in November 2023, the Strictly star seemed optimistic about his future. Although his pituitary gland tumour was benign, it was pressing on his optic nerve. If untreated, it could cause permanent blindness in him.

Following the surgery, he shared: “It’s reminded me that every day is precious and every day I need to do something that is important – not just for me but for the wider world.”

Fans concerned for Strictly star

While interacting with fellow X users in the comments under his post, Russell noted that the “floating cobweb” affects older people.

When popular author Sudakshina aka Kina asked: “Oh dear. I thought it might be cataracts or something. I hope it doesn’t hurt or itch?”

The astrologer responded: “No, it’s not a cataract it’s like a floating cobweb and Mr Malik told me it’s a bleed behind the eye. It’s called old age Kina, this Middlesex man is 74 next Wednesday and it’s all part of it x.”

Bruce Danton also checked on Russell:  “I feel for you there of course too as that is not nice at all. I hope you can bear with it though too?!”

The Strictly star said in response: “Thanks Bruce, all part of life’s rich tapestry, I guess x.”

And some fans told Russell of similar experiences they have endured with the eye condition.

One wrote: “It happened to me about 8 years ago. Great billowy bubbles in my eye. Floaters! The good news is they can reduce or maybe the brain just adjusts to them. ”

Another added: “I had one of those…it fades in time and you just get used to it and then you don’t notice it…I hope you get to feel better soon.”
