Beloved TV couple Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford have announced their marriage split. But rumours have been plaguing them for a while over whether there was trouble in their 26-year union.
From never appearing on each other’s social media, to Eamonn’s ill health, they have faced speculation for months over the future of their marriage.
The couple confirmed the news of their split via a statement to The Sun On Sunday.

A spokesperson for the duo revealed: “Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes have confirmed their marriage is over and they are in the process of divorcing.”
Neither Ruth nor Eamonn have commented on the news on their social media accounts.
It is said to be down to having drifted apart in recent months. However they want to remain friends. A source said: “Their work commitments took them in different directions.”
Split rumours for Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes
The couple have been dogged with split rumours, mostly based on the fact they don’t appear on each other’s social media accounts. The last time they featured together on Instagram was in July 2022 when he appeared in a video on her page to help promote her Feeling Fabulous with Ruth festival.
Since then both have been active on social media, with Ruth mainly posting about her work commitments such as he QVC clothing line.
Eamonn, however, has come under the most fire, as he often posts family snaps – without Ruth in them. Recently, Eamonn shared pictures from his granddaughter’s christening and Ruth didn’t appear to be seen.
Fans commented on her absence and questioned whether their relationship was okay.
“You never see them together and it’s worrying, I loved the relationship they had,” one fan speculated.
Eamonn then posted a picture of him reuniting with pal Linda Lusardi and fans were quick to hit out.
“Where was poor Ruth?” questioned one.
“Where is your beautiful wife Ruth?! Why or what are you trying prove!” said another.
No show at Awards
The couple have also not appeared on the red carpet together for some years. Their last pictured appearance was at the Tric Awards in 2022.
Prior to that they were regulars at award ceremonies such as the National Television Awards and various other events.
Eamonn vs ITV
Since the Phillip Schofield scandal hit ITV and saw the This Morning presenter leave the channel, Eamonn has been very vocal about their feud.
However, Ruth has remained silent and her failure to back her husband over his outspoken claim sparked further speculation.
During a sit down interview with Dan Wootton on GB News, Eamonn accused Phillip of creating an atmosphere at This Morning where people hated him.
“He [Phillip] created an atmosphere where people hated him,” he said of Phillip’s time on ITV. “People would avoid him in the corridor. He didn’t look at anybody, didn’t know anybody’s name.”
He has also accused ITV of covering up Phillip’s affair.
However crisis management expert Edward Coram James, spoke exclusively to ED! “I think she has, so far, decided to stay out of her husband’s battle against ITV. Her polls may also see a reduction in popularity as the couple face backlash, however, the main loser is still ITV, who are in the fight of their lives right now against a changing demographic from terrestrial tv and ongoing accusations from former and current presenters.”
He then added: “As Holmes’ has announced, his wife previously made a complaint against Schofield’s behaviour and thus they probably share the same opinion of ITV and the former presenter, however, have different elements riding on what they do and do not say in this current fragile time at ITV,” he said.
He then speculated that perhaps the main reason behind Ruth’s silence is the fact that she still works for ITV.
“In regard to reputation management, I think the best option for Ruth is to continue to not comment on what her husband has said about her current employer, and focus on her role at Loose Women,” Edward then said.
Ruth on caring for Eamonn
Eamonn has had a well-documented battle with chronic pain. Ruth has been by his side throughout. However she was recently forced to clarify comments she was “fed-up” with him.
Eamonn made the comment on his GB News breakfast show. He said: “I think my family are a bit fed up with me now.
“The kids are a bit embarrassed about how I move around or don’t move around, and Ruth’s getting a bit fed up with me.”
Ruth then responded while presenting Loose Women and said: “I thought, well, I am and I’m not. Do you know what I mean? It’s human.
“You can’t help, but when you’re helping someone all the time and they’re very incapacitated it’s hard to be Florence Nightingale all the time.”
Earlier this week Ruth said that the couple were facing up to the fact that he may “never be 100% right” after he was pictured in a wheelchair.
Speaking to Woman’s Weekly, Ruth shared: “I don’t know how much Eamonn’s mobility will improve. We live in hope. He does the physio, but there might have to be some acceptance that this might never be 100% right.
“With any care situation – and there are millions of carers in this country – it isn’t always easy. It’s testing but we manage as a family.”
Ruth added: “I look at Eamonn, who’s had his health and back problems, and it makes you realise how important your health is.”
Eamonn’s previously had operations on his back to help with bulging discs. He then faced a setback when he fell and broke his shoulder last year.
He uses a walking stick to help him get about and has been pictured in a wheelchair.
