Ruth Langsford reveals she demanded same pay as Eamonn Holmes

And why shouldn't she?

Ruth Langsford has said she demands to be paid the same as husband Eamonn Holmes when they work together.

The former Strictly Come Dancing contestant, 57, told The Sun that she deserves to earn the same as someone else doing the same job as her, regardless of gender.

She and Eamonn, 58, co-host Fridays together on This Morning and act as regular stand-ins when Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield are away.

Ruth said the recent discussions about the gender pay gap in broadcasting had strengthened her resolve to always ask for equal pay when she is working alongside another presenter, male or female, on any programme.

“I insist now on being paid the same. I insist now that I do,” she said.

“The thing is you don’t normally discuss your pay when you’re a co-presenter, but obviously I do with my husband because he’s my husband.

“I basically wouldn’t work for them if they weren’t paying me the same if I’m doing the same job, whether I’m with my husband or any other male co-presenter.”

Ruth isn’t the only female presenter to take that stance.

Holly, 37, famously got a pay rise last year to bring her salary into line with that of co-host Phillip, 55.

In an interview with The Sun’s Fabulous magazine in September, Holly said of gender pay gaps: “I think it’s outrageous, I mean there’s no reason for it at all.

“If you have two equally qualified people who have been doing something for the same amount of time then there is absolutely no excuse.”

Ruth, meanwhile, has a busy year ahead of her.

As well as her continuing duties on This Morning and Loose Women, where she serves as a lead panellist, she has a show on QVC and a new consumer programme with Eamonn.

Their new show, Do The Right Thing, has been described as a “people-driven, live audience programme which puts the spotlight on rogue companies and red tape, whilst championing consumer stories and creating emotional reunions.”

Ruth said: “The stories we are going to cover, the issues we are going to investigate and the campaigns we are going to run will strike a chord with people across the country.”
