We’re huge fans of the glamorous Ruth Langsford. Whether it’s on the sofa with husband Eamonn Holmes presenting This Morning, nattering with the other ladies on the Loose Women panel, or strutting her stuff in the new series of Strictly, she’s always great value.
And in a candid new interview, Ruth’s talked about the origins of her relationship with Eamonn, which is still going strong after more than 20 years.
But it wasn’t always easy at the start! Ruth told the Daily Mail all about how, shortly after moving to London in the mid-90s, she fell for Eamonn but they had to keep their budding romance a secret.
As Eamonn had recently split from his long-term partner, and had three children to think about, Ruth and Eamonn never held hands in public and weren’t able to attend public functions together.
But Ruth said: “I thought it spoke volumes about the sort of man he was, the sort of father he was and the integrity he had. It made me love him more, not less.”

She was also revealing about their home life, saying: “Eamonn will be the first to take the mick out of me but he will also be the first to floor me with his thoughtfulness.
“When I get home after rehearsing he’ll have a bowl of ice out for my feet and a gin and tonic on the side. He will pause one of his Second World War documentaries and listen to me rambling on about my toes, my back, what Anton said and how I can’t remember a step.
“I’m giving him zero attention but I know he won’t be thinking that. He just gets it. He gets me. That’s why we work.”
A fresh G&T after coming through the door sounds pretty good to us – score one for Eamonn!
Ruth has also been a revelation on Strictly, dancing with pro partner Anton Du Beke. She said of the show: “I’ve always loved the show and always wanted to be asked to do it.”
“I just wanted to learn to dance. And I wanted to do it for a whole generation of menopausal women who haven’t given up on themselves just because they are in their 50s. For me, this was about hot moves, not hot flushes, and throwing myself into the glamour, sequins and drama of this incredible show.
“I’m not a trained dancer but I still put myself out there and try because I want to have fun and see how far I can go.”

And although she’s had some difficult confrontations with the judges – she had another difficult performance last night – she says: “I’m usually such a mix of nerves and relief once the dance is over that I hear barely half of what they are saying; it goes in one big blur. And they are always right – I can’t argue.”
It takes a strong person to argue with the Strictly judges, so she’s probably making a good choice there! It was lovely to hear a bit more about Ruth’s personal life, here’s hoping for many more years of happiness for her and Eamonn.
