Rylan Clark-Neal has announced he’ll miss being in Lisbon for the Eurovision 2018 finale after having to fly back to the UK due to “unforeseen circumstances”.

But he has assured fans that everything is absolutely fine and he’ll be watching the show from home.

The television presenter landed his “dream job” with the UK’s Eurovision 2018 commentary team, and joined BBC Radio 1 DJ Scott Mills in commentating on the two live semi-finals from Lisbon.

But he announced overnight on Twitter he wouldn’t be in Lisbon for the main event.

Rylan told fans: “Due to unforeseen circumstances having to fly back to the UK and will miss the final. GOOD LUCK to all delegations it’s been a pleasure meeting you all and most of all good luck to our girl @surieofficial .

“Thanks Team UK it’s been amazing.”

The 29-year-old later returned to Twitter to assure his fans everything is fine, after he was inundated with well-wishes from worried admirers.

One had said: “Have a safe journey hope it’s nothing serious x.”

Another had tweeted: “Oh what a shame! I hope all is ok and circumstances aren’t bad. Keep smiling toots.”

And a third wrote: “Hope all is ok Rylan, thoughts are with you if there is a problem. Big hugs xx.”

But Rylan assured everyone: “All okay. Thanks for all your messages. Thanks to the lovely two girls at the airport. You absolute diamonds for letting me sit with yous. No dramas or anything. Looking forward to watching tomorrow’s final on the tele. @bbceurovision xxx.”

The Eurovision 2018 Grand Final airs Saturday at 8pm on BBC One, with Graham Norton once again doing the commentary.

Former Great British Bake Off host Mel Giedroyc will be on screen revealing what points the UK has given the other competitors.

The UK’s entry this year is SuRie, who will perform her track Storm after winning the Eurovision You Decide competition earlier in the year.

Fans were quick to wish Rylan well and say they hoped he was back for Eurovision next year. Many also said they were relieved to hear everything was okay with him.

Rylan had previously described his Eurovision role as a dream job; he’s been vocal about how much he loves the competition and served as a guest panellist on BBC2’s Eurovision: You Decide.

He said earlier this year: “After an amazing evening at Eurovision: You Decide, I’m absolutely thrilled to be saying I can’t wait to join the Eurovision family and host the semi-finals alongside Scott for the UK this year.

“As a massive fan of Eurovision I’ve already cracked out my Union Jack Spice Girl jacket and am packed and primed and ready to take on Lisbon.

“SuRie was great this year and I can’t wait to watch her represent us.”
