Christmas is supposed to be the season of goodwill to all men – a sentiment we should extend across the whole year…
Sadly not everyone adheres to the idea. And there’s no better evidence of this than on social media, where trolls are out in force as usual (possibly more so, given the extra free time on their hands…)
Witnessing snarky messages is tedious and upsetting for the rest of us decent folk, and it appears TV favourite Rylan Clark-Neal has reached saturation point.
He posted a message today urging keyboard warriors to engage their brains and consider what harm their cruel words could be doing.
Well said, Rylan.
It’s not known if anything in particular elicited his post, or whether he’d just seen enough nonsense on Twitter to make him snap.
However, he’s faced his own online abuse this week, after deciding to address the false rumours he’d been axed from This Morning.
The former X Factor contestant said he simply needed a break and would be “back soon” following reports suggesting he had been dropped by the ITV show in favour of I’m A Celebrity … Get Me Out Of Here! winner Georgia Toffolo.
Rylan wrote on Twitter: “Rumours in press why I’m “leaving” or been “axed” from @thismorning.
“Truth is i need a break. I’ve been working constantly for 5 years and I need time to myself.”
He added he would continue with his work on Big Brother’s Bit On The Side, writing: “I’ll still be at Big Bro.
“I just need to take some time to myself. That’s all. I’ll be back soon.”
As Toff was unveiled as a new member of the This Morning team last week, Rylan joked it was “out with the old and in with the new”.
Toff had told viewers in a video from snowy Switzerland: “Hi everyone.
“From the heat of the jungle to the cold slopes of Switzerland, I just wanted to wish you all a really, really happy Christmas and share with you some exciting news.
“From January I am going to be joining the This Morning family and I am so so happy to be part of the team.
“You will be able to find out in the new year what I have been up to here.”
Some followers of Rylan on social media have slammed he usually popular presenter, claiming his reason for quitting is a bit pathetic…
One wrote on Twitter: “Try working 20 years for the NHS we could all do with a break!”
“It must be exhausting talking for 20 minutes on telly,” sniped another.
So then Rylan deleted the original tweet and posted a riposte!
WHEN YOU PIT A NICE LITTLE TWEET UP AND PEOPLE PIPE UP….. I’ll just keep it simple……. I’ve not been sacked from @thismorning just having some time off that’s all. Night pic.twitter.com/EDrrQPEWNV

Well, Rylan, we can’t wait to see young CBB – and hope the extra time at home helps you recharge your batteries.
