Warning to internet trolls: sometimes, celebrities actually read what you write about them. And on occasions, they even bite back.
That rather harsh lesson has just been learned by an online critic who decided to have a dig at Scarlett Moffatt on her Twitter feed.
The former Gogglebox star, 26, had gone out of her way to support school pupils who are expecting their GCSE results today, tweeting an amusing message about US pop star Pitbull.
Quoting the rapper’s song Give Me Everything, she quipped: “To anybody worrying about their GCSE results, remember that Pitbull rhymed ‘Kodak’ with ‘Kodak’, and he’s a millionaire.”
And, as trolls usually do, someone thought the post warranted some barracking.
Referring to Scarlett’s work on Gogglebox, they scalded: “And remember Scarlett Moffat [sic] made money by watching TV on TV. Anyone can be successful, no matter how brain-dead.”
Big mistake. As anybody who’s seen Gogglebox will know, the Durham-born star is NOT afraid to speak her mind. And she was straight on her keypad to fire back a riposte.
She replied: “I have 13 A*-C GCSEs, 3 A levels and a 2:1 bachelors degree, mate. But if you work hard & be kind, you can achieve anything.”
Ouch. And to rub salt into said troll’s wounds, Scarlett was backed up by her army of fans.
One told her detractor: “She’s absolutely battered you there, just walk away.”
Another mused: “Imagine being that angry at Scarlett Moffatt (why tho?) that you decided to troll her, and then she bodybagged you? Sensational.”
And a third one hailed Scarlett as an inspiration, tweeting: “I bloody love you, you gorgeous, bright, fabulous, strong woman.”

She certainly is strong – last year, she overcame all those creepy crawlies in the Australian jungle (not to mention a fair few neurotic celebs) to win I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!
Her victory on the ITV reality show has helped land her a new presenting job on Channel 4 dating series Streetmate, on which she’s proved that she’s not afraid to speak to strangers.
And on today’s evidence, she’s not afraid to put them down, either.
