Emmerdale has shared an exclusive preview film of Joe Tate’s much-antipicated fall, which is due to air TONIGHT (Thursday 3 May).
In the short film, which is tantalisingly a little over one minute long, actor Ned Porteous talks us through the dramatic jump – and leaves us guessing as to his character Joe’s fate…
Admitting that a stunt double was used, Ned shows us behind the scenes of the shoot in Chorley – where ropes, lifeboats, drones and scuba divers were all used, while lots of crew members prepared to film the important scenes for the ITV soap.

Talking to the camera, Ned says: “I’m excited and you should be excited as well.”
We see the stunt double leap into the water followed by a camera drone. And while the professional stunt man comes out smiling, Emmerdale fans will have to wait and see if Joe does or not.

We know that Joe recklessly jumps into the quarry to prove himself to Noah, as they revisit all the places they used to visit with their dad Chris when they were younger.

After a heart to heart, Noah dares Joe to jump into the water… But, when he doesn’t resurface, it looks like the attempts to win over his little brother may have gone disastrously wrong for Joe.
Showing off isn’t exactly something you should do in front of an impressionable young kid… However, if it goes right, Home Farm owner Joe will have won the respect of Noah for life.
Discussing why Joe decides to go through with the dangerous jump, Ned tells Digital Spy: “Joe has a slight fear of heights, so there’s a part of him that wants to impress his little brother, and part of him that wants to do it for himself.
“It was great to film the scenes. We got to take a crew over to Chorley to film on location and it felt a bit like a school trip!”
