Emmerdale have revealed a touching farewell picture of Sandy Thomas as the soap icon left the village.
The father of late vicar Ashley Thomas decided to leave the village for a new life in Australia with his friend Maisie in last night’s emotional episode.
Actor Freddie Jones, 90, who played Sandy, has retired and left the ITV show after 12 years.
Sandy had been struggling with his decision, not wanting to leave his daughter-in-law Laurel or his grandchildren.
But after some advice from grandson Arthur, he decided to take his shot at happiness – and warm weather for a new life down under.

However, he had taken his time to decide giving fans the perfect Sandy-style send off.
After Arthur told him to ‘seize the day’, Sandy strapped on his Australian hat and set off on his mobility scooter chasing after Maisie in her taxi.
And just as it looked as if he was about to miss his chance, Laurel arrived in her car to chase Maisie to the airport.
But just before he left, he took one last look at the village to say goodbye.
“Australia here I come,” he shouted as he said goodbye forever.
Viewers were in tears at the emotional goodbye and shared their upset on social media.
