Sharon said Ozzy had a fall at their home in Los Angeles earlier this year following a serious bout of flu that landed him in hospital, causing the the metal rods inserted into his body after a previous accident to be displaced.

The Talk’s other panellists asked Sharon how he’s been since and she broke into tears.

Welling with emotion, Sharon said: “At the beginning of the year [Ozzy] had a bad flu that went to bronchitis, that went to pneumonia and when he had the flu he came out of hospital and he had a bad accident at home.

“He fell. He fell in the middle of the night and years ago, previously, he’d had a motorbike accident years ago where he was in a coma for days.”

She continued: “What he’d done was, he’d reinjured his back and neck and shoulders and all of the metal rods that were put in his body were dislodged.”

Sharon reassured the others “he’s fine, he’s great” and said Ozzy, 70, feels he’s let his fans down as the accident forced him to reschedule tour dates.

A post on Ozzy’s Instagram page announced the tour changes.

The post included a statement from Ozzy himself, who told his followers: “I can’t believe I have to reschedule more tour dates.

“Words cannot express how frustrated, angry and depressed I am not to be able to tour right now.”

He continued: “I’m grateful for the love and support I’m getting from my family, my band, friends and fans, it’s really what’s keeping me going.

“Just know that I am getting better every day… I will fully recover… I will finish my tour… I will be back!”

It follows reports last month that Sharon had been dropped from the X Factor judge lineup because of her age.

She said on The Talk: “I was signed to go to England, and then Simon Cowell changed his mind and thought I was too old. Simon goes, ‘She’s old. We need somebody young.'”
