ITV’s new dating show aired yesterday evening and viewers tuned in to watch the very first episode, however, they ended up being slightly divided over the show’s format.
The premise is a rather familiar one, and some viewers were quick to point out the show’s similarities to ITV2’s hit reality TV programme, Love Island.
Singletown’s premise is ever so slightly different to Love Island since it sees five couples agree to split up before going onto the programme.
They are then given a taste of the single life once again and they get back into the dating scene. The aim of the game is to see whether the couples decide to get back together or not, and whether they find true love in another partner.

All the contestants were split into two groups and sent into a rather posh-looking apartment in London.
It wasn’t long before the show’s hosts, Joel Dommett and Emily Atack, informed each group that their former partners were living next door.
They also added that they would be spending time with other singles.
This was the part that some viewers took issue with since they felt that it was a copy of the second villa format in Love Island, and they took to social media to point this similarity out.

“This house warming party is a poor man’s Casa Amor,” one viewer wrote on Twitter.
Another added: “Making me feel uneasy watching #Singletown. Really pushing some of the contestants’ feelings to the limit, not nice to watch.”
Meanwhile, a fourth fan commented: “Hmmm I thought the exes wouldn’t be allowed to see each other? Seems a flaw.”
However, some viewers liked the new show and even went so far as saying that it was better than Love Island, with one person tweeting: “Quite enjoyed #Singletown. Miles better than Love Island.”
You can watch Singletown weeknights at 9pm on ITV2.
