Sir Elton John was forced to cancel nine shows on his current US tour after he was struck down with an infection that could have killed him.
His management has revealed that the 70 year old rocker suffered a “potentially deadly” bacterial infection that left him having to spend two nights in intensive care and scrap concerts in the US.

The flamboyant singer had apparently became violently ill toward the closing stages of of his tour in South America last week and was ordered back to the UK to seek urgent treatment.
Medics examined the superstar, gave him medication and ordered him to rest, resulting in nine concerts in Las Vegas and California over the next two weeks being shelved.
In spite of his age and the severity of the infection, Elton’s management assured fans that he would be fine in a statement.
“Thankfully, Elton’s medical team identified this quickly and treated it successfully,” it read.
“He is expected to make a full and complete recovery.”
Sir Elton is due to resume his schedule of live performances in the UK on 3 June and told is fans:
“I am so fortunate to have the most incredible and loyal fans and apologise for disappointing them. I am extremely grateful to the medical team for their excellence in looking after me so well,” the star said.

His Million Dollar Piano tour is due to end its run in May 2018.
It is not the first time Sir Elton has struck down by ill-health on the road.
While performing his show The Million Dollar Piano at Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas, Nevada in 2012, Sir Elton was ill with a serious respiratory infection.
In July 2013, he cancelled a concert in London’s Hyde Park after being diagnosed with appendicitis.
