Snow has already begun to fall across Britain and forecasters are warning of more ice and sub-zero temperatures as the big chill finally hits.
The Met Office has issued new weather warnings as experts predict snow to fall every day for the next week while “injuries” are expected on icy roads and pavements as conditions become treacherous.

As snow showers fall across the east coast and northern areas, forecasters predict the temperature could drop as low as -11C this evening.
The Met Office’s John West told The Sun Online: “We’ve seen some snow on the radar already across parts of Northern Ireland, Scotland and tracking down the east cost of northern England down towards Newcastle.
“We’ll probably see some on the North Yorks Moors too.
“It will be a largely dry day apart from a few snow showers continuing mainly across the east coast, so anywhere from Aberdeen and the Cairngorms all the way down to East Anglia is where we’ll see some snow showers today.”

The meteorologist added: “It’s going to be really cold tonight across the board.
“There’s a risk that it could go down to -10C or -11C in parts of Scotland.”
It will be bitterly cold across the rest of the UK soon, with -8C predicted tonight in the North York Moors, -5C in mid wales and -1C in London.

Cold air direct from the Arctic will hit this afternoon seeing the south of England struggling to get above 6C. While this is average for the time of year, the Met Office says that we will feel the bite because we have experienced such a mild January so far.
Bonnie Diamond of the Met Office told Mail Online: “We’re going to really feel the switch to colder temperatures.”

While forecasters predict a cold but changeable outlook until mid February, Twitter users wasted no time in mocking the arrival of ‘snowmageddon’.
One person tweeted: “#snowmageddon (1 flake) that is everyone buy 0458304 loaves if bread and all the milk cows in Cumbria can make in a week. We’re doooooomed! Oh wait… its melted… as you were.”
While another joked: “One 30 second flurry here in #Essex and it’s gone mental…”
