UK weather forecast: Snow ‘to fall for two weeks’ following Storm Arwen devastation

Bad weather for winter only just beginning

Freezing weather conditions are expected to continue in the UK – with two weeks of snow forecast to be on the way.

The wintry weather follows on from the battering wreaked by Storm Arwen. It brought gales approaching 100mph and left three people dead.

And while temperatures plunged to below freezing alongside Arwen, forecasters expect the bitter cold to return within days.

What is the snow forecast?

Yellow warnings for snow and ice have been in place for Scotland and the north of England.

And a yellow warning for ice has been extended until Monday morning for the east of the UK and areas in the south.

However, while it is expected to become milder over the next couple of days, the Met Office indicates it will become cold again in the middle of the week.

Furthermore, according to forecasters WX Charts, the cold conditions will continue across the UK.

When will it snow? Will it snow today?

According to a report, the grim forecast could kick in next Friday (December 3).

Additionally, flurries are expected to occur on December 13.

And that could mean a couple of weeks of the white stuff falling across the country.

Storm Arwen was the beginning of many.

But further snow today (Sunday November 28) is considered unlikely.

According to BBC Weather, there may be a few instances of snow moving into western England and Wales.

But snow is expected to clear overnight into Monday in the south.

‘More storms to come’

A meteorologist for British Weather Services has indicated that storms could be prevalent throughout December.

Jim Dale told the Express website: “Storm Arwen was the beginning of many. The potential is there for a run of storms through the festive season and perhaps beyond.

“So far this autumn, the weather has been too settled and tranquil, and this always leads to a counterbalance.”

He added: “I would not be surprised to now see storms as a dominant feature not just through December, but into the start of next year.”
