The Met Office has issued ice warnings for most of the UK as snow is expected to fall across Britain for the next two weeks.
Drivers have been warned of “incredibly bad” conditions on roads after snowfalls across southern England and northern Scotland, as the cold snap hits, sending temperatures diving to what will feel like -16C.

Today is expected to be the coldest day of the week according to the MET Office who warned colder weather is on its way, with snow expected to fall in at least one part of the UK every day.
Issuing a yellow weather warning for ice, a MET Office spokesperson said: “Northern Ireland saw some significant accumulations [Tuesday] morning, probably a few inches, then it pushed across Wales, central parts of England and towards the south east.

“We’ve seen a few centimetres in particular over the hills, but also a good dusting of snow to lower levels as well.
“Most of that has cleared away now, with the exception of eastern Kent, where there could be further snow showers [into Wednesday morning].”

Many areas saw several centimetres of snow on Tuesday night as ice caused problems for drivers with police in Scotland saying 125 crashes were reported.
North Yorkshire Police tweeted: “It’s incredibly bad driving conditions in #York and surrounding areas. I hope you’re all tucked up in bed, but if not, please take care. Make sure windscreens are clear and take extra blankets and hot drinks for long journeys.”

In London, where temperatures dropped to -1C, weather presenter Carol Kirkwood tweeted that her morning commute was like driving on an “ice rink”.

Airports were also hit by the bad weather with Belfast International Airport and Liverpool Airport closing their runways, while some flights out of Manchester were cancelled.
Thursday is set to stay sunny and cold for most areas with outbreaks of rain and hill snow in the north in the afternoon.
Friday will be warmer with patchy rain and hill fog, with heavy rain pushing southwards on Saturday.
