Coronation Street SPOILER: Billy’s dark past is finally revealed

Not so squeaky clean, Vicar?

Todd Grimshaw and Summer Spellman are left stunned in next week’s Corrie, when Billy Mayhew is arrested on suspicion of armed robbery. Tbh, we’re pretty stunned ourselves.

The police question Billy, revealing the charges relate to an incident that took place in 2001 – Billy’s heart sinks.

Todd gets Adam to call into the police station and, taking Billy to one side he instructs him to say absolutely nothing to the police.

The police start grilling Billy and ask him how his fingerprints came to be over a burnt-out car that was used in an armed robbery sixteen years ago.

Billy take Adam’s advice on-board and says nothing to the police. But he’s got quite a lot to say to Todd later when he makes a shocking confession.

Todd and Billy lie to Summer (pretty sure that’s never a good idea) and tell her it was a case of mistaken identity and Billy has been released without charge.

Will Todd stand by his man?

It’s not long before social services hear about Billy’s arrest for armed robbery and it looks as if Summer could be in danger of losing another dad.

Todd and Adam put a statement together for Billy, saying he’s had no involvement in any armed robbery, but the vicar is feeling pretty guilty. Will he be able to keep up the lie?

Daniel Brocklebank, who plays the guilt-ridden vicar, has spoken out about Billy’s arrest.

He said: “Billy is horrified, he was in a few weeks before when he handed himself in for the Peter thing but what he doesn’t realise is that the fingerprints he gave when he was arrested then have brought up a cold case from 2001.

“So when he is arrested he has no idea why and he thinks it’s a mistake.”

He also spoke out about exploring Billy’s darker side, adding: “It’s been great to make Billy more three dimensional, to flesh him out, to give him a history.

“It’s a weird job in a sense that with a drama or a play or a movie you know the character’s entire arc; you’ve got a beginning, a middle and an end.

“In something like Corrie, you are constantly playing middle so to suddenly discover his past and work out who Billy is and where he is from has been a joy.”
