Stacey Solomon hits back at claims she was ‘fuming’ with Janet Street Porter over parenting ‘dig’

Stacey Solomon has slammed claims she was “fuming” with Janet Street Porter during today’s Loose Women.

The pair were engaged in a debate on the daytime show about children being homeschooled.

Soon-to-be mum-of-three Stacey insisted she took her sons Zachary and Leighton out of school because it “wasn’t working” for her, and Janet hit back that homeschooled kids live in a “pampered and enclosed world”.

Janet said: “What [the government] are trying to do is to have some sort of control over quality.

“Because for every parent who might be doing the best for their child there might be parents who, as you say, haven’t got their children’s interests at heart.

“Ofsted’s already worried about the incredible growing number of schools which are entirely outside the system which are basically illegal.

“And some parents might be sending their children to these illegal schools but telling the council and telling the local authority ‘I’m home educating my child.'”

Stacey hit back: “But there are 500 schools that have been rated either inadequate or needing improvement from every Ofsted inspection from 2005 until 2018 that could affect as many as 500,000 pupils.”

Janet then pointed out that only a small amount of parents could afford to homeschool their children.

She added: “I personally do not agree with homeschooling at all unless your children has special needs and special requirements because I do not think you’re equipping your children to dealing with things in life like people you don’t get on with and other kids who might bully you.

“You’ve got to teach your kids to deal with resilience and resilience is part of growing up. I think that children who are homeschooled are living in a pampered, enclosed world.”

Stacey replied: “They’re not being sheltered from the world – to have one single education for every child can be seen to be sheltering.”

Janet insisted that the only way that schools could improve is if parents worked with them “100 per cent”.

She then said: “Not taking their kids out and stick them in a bedroom at home,” to which Stacey replied: “No, no no – that is not how home education works, I don’t stick my kids in a bedroom!”

Following the debate, Stacey took to Twitter to clear up claims she was “fuming” with Janet over her comments.

Re-posting an article which claimed she was furious with Janet, Stacey wrote: “I’m not fuming. I’m not even fuming in inverted commas.

“Just to clarify. I love having an intelligent, valid, topical debate with Janet, with any of my colleagues in fact.

“Two women engaging in debate isn’t a cat fight, where we swipe ‘digs’ at one another and end up ‘fuming’.”
