Strictly 2024 star Pete Wicks admits he was ‘forced’ to sign up and has ‘never’ watched the show

Pete will be strutting his stuff soon

| Updated:

Strictly 2024 star Pete Wicks has revealed he was not exactly a fan of the glitzy BBC One show before he joined this year’s series.

Reality star Pete will be strutting his stuff on the iconic dance floor later this year. The 36-year-old is not new to the reality TV scene. Pete has previously appeared on Celebs Go Dating and Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins.

On Strictly, Pete will be joined by other famous faces like Tasha Ghouri, Nick Knowles and Jamie Borthwick.

However, while Strictly has amassed a loyal legion of fans, including celebs who are keen to appear on the show, over the years, it seems Pete was not one of them.

Strictly 2024: Pete Wicks ‘never’ watched BBC show

In a recent episode of his podcast Staying Relevant, Pete shared how he was “forced” to do Strictly by his manager and best friend Sam Thompson – the boyfriend of Zara McDermott, who appeared on the series last year.

Pete admitted he wasn’t too keen on the show at first. But then he attended a “taster” day, and he soon changed his tune.

“It’s the last thing I think anyone would ever think I would do. I’ve never thought about doing it. I’ve never really watched Strictly,” he said.

Pete went on: “You do like a taster day where I had to see how I got on for an hour with one of the pros.

“And I am going to be honest with you, I went because I was semi-forced by my management and Sam and anyone else obsessed with Strictly. And I did the taster and I [expletive] loved it. I genuinely loved it.”

Pete also shared his thoughts about what the public will think about him as he gets ready to take to the dance floor this month.

“So many people are gonna watch. But they’re people who don’t know. They’re gonna [expletive] hate me,” he said.

Pete ‘terrified’ about Strictly 2024

After it was announced Pete is appearing on Strictly 2024, Pete told the BBC: “Dancing live in front of the nation every Saturday?

“Absolutely terrifying. But anyone who knows me knows I love a challenge and trying new things. So I’m genuinely looking forward to getting stuck in.”

When asked how he was feeling about appearing on Strictly he admitted: “It is a mixture of excited and absolutely petrified, genuinely petrified.”
