Reigning Strictly champion and BBC sports presenter Ore Oduba has tweeted a statement hitting out at the “bile and vitriol” he’s seen directed at this year’s contestants.
“I genuinely cannot believe some of the articles, comments and messages I’ve read, targeting certain members of this year’s cast,” Ore wrote.
“It’s hurtful and to be honest, it’s shameful.”
And the presenter, who won the glitterball trophy last year with partner Joanne Clifton, continued: “How can a show that is unique in how it spreads joy, brings people together and celebrates a beautiful art produce so much bile and vitriol towards anyone?”
Ore didn’t name names in his statement, but it’s not hard to assume that he is talking about the online abuse received by Alexandra Burke.
She’s been criticised for being over-emotional and fake, and has admitted that she’s struggling to cope with the nasty comments directed her way.
Alexandra has even said she’s tried to change her personality so as not to annoy the online bullies.
It’s possible Ore was also thinking of the media speculation over Kevin and Karen Clifton’s marriage when he wrote his statement.
There have been rumours that couple – who are Ore’s partner Joanne’s brother and sister-in-law – are already on the rocks.

Ore wrote that fans shouldn’t forget that “every week people are giving their all for our entertainment and that there are real emotions at stake”.
And he added: “Let’s not spoil it for anyone, or everyone. Strictly has the best, most supportive fans around. Let’s keep it that way.”
Ore’s statement was immediately flooded with loads of support from fellow fans.
One wrote: “People forget that words hurt just as much as weapons.”

Another said: “We all have our favourites but there is no excuse for nastiness, ever.”
And many other fans applauded Ore for speaking out.
