The opening number on Sunday night’s results programme included a dramatic same sex dance, for what is thought to be the first time.

The question of whether Strictly should introduce same sex pairings has been a hot topic in recent times.
Judges Shirley Ballas and Craig Revel Horwood have both backed the change.
Shirley previously told ITV’s Good Morning Britain: “They’re just about to have the final of the Italian version of Strictly. A same sex couple, two men, made the final. I think it’s spectacular. I think things are changing. I couldn’t think of anything more exciting. I’m for it.”

Craig, meanwhile, echoed those thoughts in a chat with ITV’s Lorraine, saying: “I think same sex couples can exist! You only have to decide who’s going to go backwards really, that’s the only difference.

“I hope so, I really hope so. In the world of competition there are same-sex couples… So there’s no reason why that can’t happen.”
Strictly Come Dancing continues on BBC One.
