Wynne Evans – known to many as the Go Compare opera star – recently showcased his remarkable weight loss transformation as he arrived at a London hotel alongside the Strictly Come Dancing crew.
The 52-year-old has lost an impressive six stone.
Wynne Evans weight loss ahead of Strictly
The Welsh tenor rose to fame through his iconic Go Compare adverts.
He was motivated to lose weight after struggling with basic daily tasks like climbing stairs.
Wynne‘s weight had reached 22 stone. This was largely due to the emotional toll of his marriage breakdown and the loss of both his parents.
Because I’ve been on a diet and I’ve lost six stone, I always have cauliflower.
Reflecting on his journey in an interview on This Morning, Wynne admitted: “I was having trouble washing and getting up the stairs. My mental health hasn’t been great in the last five or six years, and it really helped.”
He also told Wales Online in 2023: “Because I’ve been on a diet and I’ve lost six stone, I always have cauliflower because, cauliflower mash, cauliflower rice, cauliflower and chips, cauliflower curry, everything cauliflower.”
He added: “One thing I don’t have in my fridge: cheese. I can’t be trusted with it. Every cheese. My downfall is cheese and jam. I love cheese and jam together.”
Wynne joins Strictly Come Dancing
Wynne’s intense Strictly Come Dancing rehearsals seem to be paying off.
In recent snaps, the opera singer looks visibly fitter as he prepares for the show’s return this month. The first live show is set to air on September 21.
Wynne and his fellow celebrity contestants, including Shayne Ward, Montell Douglas, Toyah Willcox, Sam Quek, and Dr. Punam Krishan, will be paired with their professional dance partners in the launch show on September 14.
In images obtained by the Daily Mail this week, Wynne showed off his trim figure as he donned a brown New Balance T-shirt and orange shorts.

Daily runs
The father-of-two has been sharing snippets of his fitness journey with fans on Instagram.
Last month, Wynne posted a video of himself looking red-faced and sweaty after a gruelling workout.
“So, trying to get my stamina up for Strictly as per usual,” he said in the video.
“Thought I was going to have a heart attack! Boiling hot today. Did a Susie Chan class. Legend. Cheers, Susie! This is what a fat man doing one of your classes looks like.”
Peloton instructor and runner Susie Chan praised his efforts, commenting: “You look like a total 11/10 to me! Proper dedicated in this heat.”
In another post, he showcased his water bottle, noting his daily runs as part of his routine.
“Getting ready for my daily run, thanks to Gary for helping me with my sweat test,” he wrote.
This week, Wynne also shared a selfie from a Peloton bike workout at the gym. “Early morning workout pre-@bbcstrictly rehearsals – did a bike class with @leannehainsby,” he captioned the snap.
Opera career
Wynne’s fitness journey has been inspiring for many, and it’s clear that his physical transformation has had a big impact on his mental health.
Best known for his 14-year stint as the opera-singing mascot in Go Compare adverts, Wynne has also enjoyed a successful opera career.
He performed as Ubaldo Piangi in the 25th Anniversary production of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s The Phantom of the Opera at the Royal Albert Hall and has sung at over 30 Welsh international rugby matches.
Reflecting on his unexpected fame, Wynne told MailOnline: “I had no idea that the commercials were going to become so massive, but they have completely changed my life.
“Now, I have financial security, an album deal, a little bit of celebrity, everything you dream of.”
The Strictly launch show will air on Saturday September 14 on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
