Suranne Jones is hoping she can get behind the camera to produce her own shows.
The Doctor Foster star said she’s recently been having talks in Los Angeles with big Hollywood movers and shakers.
Suranne admitted that after working with Nicola Shindler – a top British producer – she realised she wanted to become a producer herself.
In a new interview with the Daily Mail, Suranne opened up about her new career venture.
“I had lots of dinners with studio people and writers in LA,” she said. “I’m really interested in developing some shows and I might take time off to do it.”
The actress revealed she’s already worked on a few projects but they haven’t made it onto the screen yet.
“I’ve been writing with my husband [Laurence Akers] too and that’s been interesting,” Jones added. “It’s been fun.”
Suranne said that after being mentored by Nicola and working with her on crime drama Scott & Bailey, she wanted to develop her own shows.
Even though she wants to get behind the camera instead of in front, Suranne isn’t putting aside her acting talents just yet.
She’s set to star in Sky Atlantic’s thriller Save Me, as well as starting to film BBC’s costume drama Gentleman Jack, playing Yorkshire landowner Anne Lister.
The role will see her working with award-winning writer Sally Wainwright.
Revealing why she decided to take on more projects instead of taking a break after filming BBC drama Doctor Foster, Suranne said it’s because of her son.
“I’m so thrilled to be doing well and that people want to employ me,” she told the publication.
“It’s important to show my boy that I’m working. But I want to be home for bath time. I miss my son.”
