Take That’s Howard Donald opens up about his “amazing” colonic irrigation experience

He's undergone some intense prep ahead of touring

It might be a case of a little too much information, but Take That star Howard Donald has opened up about undergoing colonic irrigation to prepare for the band’s Greatest Hits tour.

In an interview with The Mirror he revealed that he’d undergone some intense internal preparations ahead of the gruelling world tour ahead of him.

The singer claimed the procedure – which consists of flushing out the bowels – is uncomfortable but worth it in the end.

“It’s always uncomfortable when the water fills up the belly… you hold as long as you can, and then finally release,” he said.

“The feeling that you’ve cleared out lingering bad toxins is amazing.”

He undertook a colonic as part of an eight-day organ cleanse to prepare his body for the demands of performing.

And while a colonic is unlikely to be many people’s idea of a good time, it seems like it was far from being the only painful part of the cleanse.

Howard admitted that part of the cleanse involve drinking olive oil and grapefruit – a combination that made him feel sick, until it made its way out the other end.

“Just wanted to share an experience regardless of how gross I made it sound,” he said.

The Take That tour, which sees Howard and bandmates Mark Owen and Gary Barlow, kicked off on Friday night in Sheffield.

The group have 38 stadium shows lined up in the UK, after which they’re heading to play more 14 more shows in Europe.

While the whole band have been prioritising their preparations for the tour, the other two haven’t gone to such extreme lengths.

Gary claimed he’s been packing in the exercise to try and make sure he has the stamina needed to get him through.

“Knowing thousands of people have bought tickets, I want to be super prepared, physically and mentally,” he said, claiming he’s been going on plenty of hill walks, sprinting and taking spin classes.

But Mark’s taken the approach that sounds the most reasonable of all: plenty of tea and biscuits.
