Alex Deakin of the Met Office said: “Frosty start to Friday in places.

The warnings of dense fog come ahead of a sudden drop in temperatures predicted across the UK with some areas expected to drop by up to 18C after Britain enjoyed a mini heatwave for the time of year this week.

The weekend marks the start of British Summer Time with the clocks going forward on Sunday, but the first week is set to see widespread frosts.
A Met Office forecaster said: “There will be rain and strong winds at times, mainly in the northwest of the UK, where gales are likely.
“Some rain is possible in the south too, but there will be more in the way of dry weather.
“The unsettled weather is likely to continue into mid April.”

However, it’s not all bad news. After the fog clears at around 10am today, spring sunshine is predicted for Friday before the weather makes a dramatic change.
Alex Deakin explained: “For large parts of England and Wales it is a fine and bright day with sunny spells.”
The weekend outlook is “dry for many, turning colder with night frosts.”
