Antiques Roadshow star Theo Burrell shares heartbreaking cancer update

'If anything this has just fueled my fire to keep fighting for us all'

Antiques Roadshow star Theo Burrell has given an update on her cancer treatment, after previously revealing that the disease has relapsed.

The 37-year-old expert was diagnosed with stage four glioblastoma in 2022. Her son was just one years old at the time. In a shocking update last year, she said she may have a “year or two left” after the diagnosis.

Her most recent scan from December showed early stages of regrowth. And now, she’s set to undergo up to 12 rounds of chemotherapy.

Theo Burrell in crushing cancer update

The popular auctioneer took to Instagram yesterday (December 31) to let her followers know about her next course of treatment.

She wrote: “It’s been a really nice few days over the festive period, but today is the big day – restarting treatment. This afternoon I’m off to The Western General in Edinburgh to collect my Temozolomide tablets, and I begin the first of potentially 12 rounds.”

It’s with some heartbreak that I can confirm my glioblastoma has started regrowing.

The Antiques Roadshow star considers herself lucky to be receiving the treatment that “many patients are pushing for”.

She also opened up about the challenges she’s faced in her battle against cancer. Theo admitted: “It sucks. It’s relentless, it makes you feel awful, and you can’t do a whole bunch of things because you’re immunosuppressed – but there is some comfort in being in it together. And I’m very grateful I have this option still open to me.

“So to all of you out there wading through treatment – I’m joining your gang if you’ll have me?! Let’s show these cancer cells the door!” she wrote.

Theo was ‘stable’ until recently

Antiques Roadshow star Theo underwent surgery just six days after her original diagnosis two years ago.  More than 90% of her tumour was removed in the procedure.

The TV star promptly received the needed treatment such as radiotherapy alongside chemotherapy until March 2023.

She was “lucky enough to receive stable scans” until September 2024. However, a regrowth in her brain was spotted just a few weeks later.

In October, Theo said: “It’s with some heartbreak that I can confirm my glioblastoma has started regrowing. Although this was always inevitable it has been a difficult couple of weeks for me and my family, as we deal with the news and await a treatment plan.

“I am extremely grateful for having had such a good quality of life over the last two years, and I intend to take on the next step of my journey with everything I’ve got.” she continued.

The Antiques Roadshow star added: “If anything this has just fueled my fire to keep fighting for us all. We, as a community, as patients, as carers, as family and friends of those who have or have had a brain tumour, quite frankly deserve a lot better!”
