McFly star Tom Fletcher has revealed he was rushed to A&E after suffering a shock eye flare-up.
The 39-year-old singer, who is currently a coach on The Voice, has a rare eye condition called uveitis. Side effects from the condition cause inflammation inside part of the eye, pain, blurry vision and light sensitivity.

In an Instagram Story update shared on Monday (April 1), the Obviously hitmaker shared a selfie where the left side of his face was visibly drooping.
He wrote: “Not the day I had planned. Uveitis sucks! My autoimmune thing flared up out of nowhere last night. Woke up feeling (and looking) like I’d been smashed in the face! This is after it had calmed down and I could see again.”
In a follow-up post, Tom shared a photo of the A&E department of The Western Eye Hospital in central London, where he was treated.
He added: “Hate having to come here but so thankful it exists! The doctors and nurses have helped me out so many times now.”
Following his visit, Tom revealed he will need to take eye drops for the next six weeks.
This isn’t the first time the former Strictly star has documented his flare-ups. In 2022, he was rushed to the hospital before Christmas, where he had to have six weeks of steroid treatment.
The last time Tom opened up about a flare-up was in April 2023.

‘For a long time, I still didn’t tell anyone about it’
Over the years, Tom has been open about his health with fans, including his bipolar disorder. However, there was a time when he kept his struggles to himself.
After watching Stephen Fry’s documentary, The Secret Life Of The Manic Depressive, Tom resonated with his bipolar disorder and depression.
As a result, Tom went to therapy and soon received his diagnosis.
“I’d never thought about it being a definable mental health condition before, and I decided to speak to a therapist,” he told Fearne Cotton in an interview.
“For a long time, I still didn’t tell anyone about it. I was later diagnosed with bipolar. When I told my friend, Harry, he said: ‘Ahhh, that makes so much sense.'”
Tom continued: “Since then, more and more people have spoken out about their mental health. It’s nothing to be ashamed of.”
