A source also spoke to The Sun about Freddie’s accident. “He was driving on the track as normal. He wasn’t going at high speeds – it was just an accident that could happen to anyone,” they claimed.
“All the usual health and safety measures were in place for filming too,” they then continued. “Filming has been postponed for now and all anyone cares about is Freddie recovering.”
It has since been reported that Freddie’s wife, Rachael, rushed to be at his bedside once he arrived at hospital.
Freddie’s son, Corey, 16 at the time o the accident, broke his silence following the crash.

“It was a pretty nasty crash. It is shocking. We are all shocked but just hope he’s going to be okay.”
How Freddie is now
In his BBC documentary, Flintoff opens up about the crash. It left him with facial injuries requiring surgery. In the film he revealed for the first time that he still suffers nightmares, flashbacks and anxiety.
“I genuinely should not be here after what happened,” he said. Freddie then revealed that he was unable to “just shake it off” after the crash.
“I don’t want to sit and feel sorry for myself. I don’t want sympathy.” He then added: “I’m struggling with my anxiety, I have nightmares, I have flashbacks – it’s been so hard to cope.”
Since the crash, Flintoff has agreed to a financial settlement with the corporation’s commercial branch, BBC Studios, worth £9m.
Top Gear will not return for the “foreseeable future” the BBC said.
