Updating the yellow weather warning currently in place, the MET Office tweeted: “Watch out for slippery roads and pavements this morning. A yellow #ice warning has been updated as freezing rain moves across parts of the East Midlands, east and southeast England.”
Over 25 crashes were recorded in Scotland yesterday as drivers struggled with the icy conditions.
The plummeting temperatures also saw 94 schools in Buckinghamshire to close as the weather caused difficulties for commuters.

The west of England has avoided much of the cold weather so far. Aiden McGiven says: “We’ve got thickening cloud through the morning and for Northern Ireland and the far west of Wales and Cornwall a mild start to the day.
“Temperatures will reach double figures by the afternoon in some spots, but it’s grey, gloomy and damp.”

There’s set to be some relief from the cold with milder temperatures predicted for Friday possibly reaching as high as 11C. However, the cold temperatures and snow are predicted to return early next week.
