TV presenter’s sweet tweet about mum’s birthday goes very wrong

He meant well!

Former The One Show presenter Jake Humphrey may have learnt a very important lesson this week – if you want to send someone a birthday greeting, do it in private.

Or double check what you’ve written before you press send!

The 39-year-old, who now fronts BT Sport’s football coverage, decided to wish his mum many happy returns on her special day, via the very public medium of Twitter.

The problem with that, of course, is that you only have to make one tiny slip-up for it to go viral.

And Jake somehow managed to make that slip-up.

In all fairness, it wasn’t really a slip-up.

His mother was celebrating her 69th birthday, and Jake simply said: “69 today!! Love ya Mum,” alongside a sweet pic of the two of them together.

But the rude connotations of that number didn’t escape the attention of some cheeky followers.

One fan chuckled: “You maybe wanna watch the wording of your tweet Jake. Lol.”

Another quipped: “Bit strange – maybe you should just buy her a cake and a gift instead, Jake.”

And a third added: “Jake, mate, please confirm it’s her birthday.”

The father-of-two has since deleted the tweet – although the photo and message can still be found on his Instagram page.

Poor Jake. He was only doing a nice thing wishing his mum a happy birthday!

Jake is full of surprises. In an interview with the MailOnline a few years back, he revealed that TV chef and fellow Norwich City fan Delia Smith would be one of his ideal dinner guests.

He also revealed that he has a third nipple!

He said: “It runs in the family. My uncle and my nephew have them, too. It looks like a mole but if you look closely, it’s a small nipple.

“Don’t get me wrong, it’s not like people scream when I take my shirt off.”

No, they just scream when you post rude-sounding tweets…
