EastEnders viewers have been moaning that the soap is turning into Grange Hill, with so many storylines centred around young characters.
And perhaps bosses have been listening to the complaints as they have drafted in a new couple who have definitely seen plenty of life.
Joyce and Ted Murray have been married for almost 60 years and are moving to Albert Square after being rehoused from a nearby council estate.
The couple will be played by some very familiar faces to BBC viewers – Maggie Steed from New Tricks, Pie In The Sky and French and Saunders, and Christopher Timothy, who is best known for his roles in All Creatures Great And Small and Doctors.
Maggie, 70, says: “I am very much looking forward to having Christopher as my on-screen husband, he is a terrific actor.”
Christopher, 76, adds: “The most exciting thing about joining EastEnders is not only that I’ll be back on the television, but I’ll also be working with Maggie.
“I have admired her for a long time. She is one of my favourite actresses.”
“Filming not just our first scenes but our first episode together will be like first night in the theatre – very exciting indeed.

“And of course, I’m looking forward to meeting all the cast who I’ve been used to seeing on TV over the years.”
Talk about a luvvie-off!
It soon transpires that the couple – who arrive later this spring – know Dot Branning of old.
