Former Strictly star Ugo Monye ‘close to bankruptcy’
A bankruptcy order has been issued against Ugo, according to The Sun.
The star’s wellness company – Show Me The Monye Limited – was issued with a winding-up order back in December 2023.
It came after the company reportedly failed to pay a tax bill of almost £200,000.
Now, HMRC has issued Ugo with a bankruptcy petition. The application calls for the authority to be able to seize Ugo’s assets in order to pay off his debts.
ED! has contacted Ugo’s reps for comment.
Difficult couple years for Strictly star Ugo Monye
The news comes after a tough couple of years for Ugo.
In 2023, A Question of Sport was axed after over five decades. The show underwent a major reboot in 2021, with Paddy McGuinness replacing Sue Barker as host.
Ugo and Sam Quek also then replaced Phil Tufnell and Matt Dawson as team captains.
However, viewing figures dropped off following the refresh, plummeting from 4 million to 800,000. The show was axed in September 2023.
Ugo on Strictly
However, Ugo has continued to work for the BBC as one of the hosts of its Rugby Union Weekly podcast.
Additionally, he still works as a pundit for TNT Sport’s rugby coverage.
In 2021, Ugo was a contestant on Strictly. The 41-year-old former rugby star was paired up with Oti Mabuse in that series.
Their ballroom journey came to an end in week five, when they were eliminated after losing out in a dance-off with Rhys Stephenson and Nancy Xu.
