UK weather: Fears of FLOODING as heavy rain falls

Dismal conditions expected over next few days

Torrential rain overnight resulted in nearly 60 floods alerts being put in place across the UK this morning.

And with further spells of heavy showers also predicted for later on today, there are fears flooding could follow.

The Met Office had warned commuters their Wednesday morning journeys would likely be affected by downpours last night.

A yellow warning was placed on South Wales and parts of Devon and Cornwall at 6pm yesterday and was still in place this earlier this morning.

The Met Office’s yellow warning means severely bad weather is possible over the next few days and could affect people in the concerned area.

It also indicates people should plan ahead thinking about possible travel delays, or the disruption of their day-to-day activities.

Parts of Britain were hit with two inches of rainfall and high winds overnight.

The Met Office is now predicting rain and hill snow will spread across the northwest of Scotland and bursts of rain will fall in Northern Ireland.

There will still be rainy and snowy conditions in Scotland but it will be mostly clear elsewhere, although some showers are likely to linger in NI, north Wales and northern England.

Thursday is set to experience more of the same, with extended spells of rain in the north.

Looking forward to the rest of the week, Friday is forecast to begin frostily, with rain later in the afternoon.

Gales are possible at the weekend.
