Britain could be swept by heavy snow in the next few days, with forecasts suggesting up to 13 inches might fall in some areas.
Temperatures are expected to plummet this weekend as a low-pressure system from the Atlantic chills the air, potentially making it feel as cold as -5C in places.
Torrential rain and gales are also forecast, while new weather maps suggest heavy snow will blanket high ground from Saturday.

Wintry showers, meanwhile, are possible in lower areas.
According to the Met Office, unsettled conditions will prevail during the coming days as rain, snow and gales look to threaten to disrupt travel.
It tweeted: “Noticed how much colder it feels today? Not only are temperatures lower but if you add on the effect of the strong wind it feels even colder.”
On Thursday, temperatures will get even colder as rain and strong winds pelt the nation in some areas, particularly in the the south and exposed coastal regions.

Rain is due to clear in the east as showers persist in the west, although the Met Office says bright spells are expected.
On Thursday evening, winds will ease in the east as the rain clears to make for a dry, clear night with frost.
Friday will get off to a cold, sunny start for much of the UK, although it’s not likely to last long as cloud and rain move eastward.

Snow is possible over some hills in the North, including over the weekend. On Sunday, forecasts suggest it could feel as cold as -5C.
It follows forecasts of rain and warnings of potential flooding in some parts.
At 6pm on Tuesday, a yellow warning was placed on South Wales and some areas in Devon and Cornwall.
