Heavy downpours and cooler temperatures could see up to four inches of rain fall this Saturday and Sunday (July 27 – 28), according to weather forecasters.
Experts have predicted unsettled conditions across Britain for the next few days, with severe weather and flood warnings put in place for this weekend by the Met Office.
An official told reporters the weather will be “quite a contrast” to the sweltering heat of the last few days with “intense” and “widespread” thunderstorms also expected.
It was also confirmed that a yellow rainfall warning will be in place from Saturday morning until the early hours of Sunday for Northern Ireland, south Scotland and the north and east of England.

However, despite the very wet conditions, areas such as west Wales and south-west England are likely to experience some sunshine.
And it is believed temperatures will continue to be warm, ranging from 18C to 23C.
The Met Office is reported to have told the Daily Star’s website: “An area of rain is expected to move slowly and erratically northwestwards across parts of the UK on Saturday and Sunday, and while some places within the warning area may see very little others could see several hours of heavy rain.
“Accumulations of 40-60mm are possible, with perhaps as much as 80-100mm in places, especially over high ground.”

A Met Office spokesperson also noted temperatures will drop and be “closer to average than they have been recently”.
They advised the Evening Standard that changeable conditions – and a cooler feel – will continue tomorrow and into later on next week.
The spokesperson said: “It stays pretty unsettled but the rain shifts more towards the west.
“Most of the rain will be across northern England, Wales, the Midlands and parts of the southeast.”
