Drivers may wish to give travelling a miss whenever possible this weekend following warnings from weather experts that visibility is expected to become very low.
Freezing fog and ice are forecast to persist over Saturday and Sunday, particularly in the Midlands and east of England, leading to perilous driving conditions.
The Met Office has issued a yellow warning for the fog until tomorrow morning meaning slower journey times on roads and delays to buses, trains and flights are possible.
A spokesperson told the Independent: “Although not all areas will be affected, fog patches, some dense with visibility below 100 metres, are expected to develop.

“Some places will hang on to grey and misty conditions all day.”
The fog is also expected to be hard to shift in the Cumbria area.
This weekend there is going to be a lot of dry weather.
But the fog will also be accompanied by freezing temperatures over the next couple of days – as well as some dry weather.
Clear skies are predicted due to high pressure sweeping in from Iceland and Greenland, marking a change from the very wet recent weather.

Temperatures may plummet as low as -8C overnight in Scotland and -6C in some areas of north England.
The hills of Scotland are also considered likely to experience snowfall late on Sunday and into Monday.
The south west England is expected remain relatively mild, however, with temperatures in London hovering around freezing.
“This weekend there is going to be a lot of dry weather but in the southwest it will be a wet and windy Saturday,” the Met Office spokesperson added.
