Forecasters reckon sunny, blue skies are on the way for much of the country from later on this week.
Friday will see warmer conditions break through after a miserable couple of weeks which included the coldest May Bank Holiday on record, according to weather experts.
A report on the Express website claims sunshine and soaring temperatures will take hold as high pressure builds over the UK, knocking back wind and rain coming in from the Atlantic.
However, not everywhere will experience the ‘start of summer’ ahead of the sweltering conditions expected for June, with Scotland and other places in the north continuing to endure unsettled weather.

And although the cloudless skies could mean colder nights, it could begin to sizzle early next week if temperatures reach 23C.
Until then, wall-to-wall rain is expected to perpetuate the run of dreary conditions that dominated April.
Mid-to-high single figure temperatures are believed to be as good as it gets for Thursday.

But the BBC predicts Friday will enjoy some more sunshine – even though showers could become more prevalent and heavier in some areas.
Saturday will see a scattering of showers fall with the high pressure expected to move in on Sunday and Monday.
Met Office spokeswoman Nicola Maxey told the Express website: “As we go through to the end of the week we will start to see temperatures begin to edge up although there will still be the risk of showers and some heavy, thundery outbreaks.”
She continued: “Temperatures will continue to rise through next week and we could see 19C widely across the south with highs of up to 23C possible.”

“With high pressure, we expect blue skies and sunshine and thereafter the rest of May is looking largely dry with temperatures around where they should be for the time of year.”
A forecaster for The Weather Company agreed that temperatures will rise above average for the time of year following this weekend.
They are reported to have said: “Over the weekend and into next week, it will progressively turn drier with temperatures climbing closer to the seasonal average.
“Early next week and through the remainder of that week it will be dry and sunny for the most part with temperatures for Ireland and northern Britain tending slightly above the seasonal average.”
